Yes - *gasp* - I have another chapter completed!

Since my regular beta is about to enjoy her cousin's wedding and a very deserved holiday in a fabulous, exotic location (I am not even looking in your direction, [livejournal.com profile] robs55 , go back to packing!), I am in need of a beta for chapter 11 of Hysteria.

It's about 4000 words and mostly harmless. There is mention of horrible, gruesome things but none of it is happening as such.

Any takers?

AnakaReagan - Thank you! Draco was a likely person to find her, as he frequents St. Mungo's and has the authority to actually do something. Revenge on whom? De Belleme? That will be difficult, after all, his 'treatment' is pretty much by the book, if very accelarated. But I'll see what I can do :)

Blue - Thank you for reading and reviewing! Now, Hermione has to deal with the aftermath of what happened, on all kinds of levels...

slashymcslashface  - Thank you! You are right - Victorian medicine is a scary thing... Do you mean the keeper by 'mystery man'?

luna4917 - Thyank you! Yes, Draco is back and he is not happy! Also, although Hermione is finally free from de Belleme and his posse, she still has to deal with what happened. It will be a rocky road.

mirrorofrapture  - Thank you for reading and reviewing! Draco and de Belleme are basically polar opposites in their viewpoints on therapy. Nevertheless, they are both operating within the accepted spectrum of therapy of Victorian times. Hysteria was seen as a dangerous condition, which could lead to insanity. Many women were admitted by their husbands, brothers or fathers to insane asylums on claims of hysteria. Usually, as nearly 75% of all women (!) were believed to be hysterical, the treatment was an ongoing, regular and expensive therapy of 'pelvic massage'. But if a woman dared to be too 'outspoken' or denied the diagnosis or was simply in the way of a male relative, therapy could turn extremely ugly very quickly - electro shocks, lobotomies and clitoridectomies were supposed to be the ultimate cure. These women had very little to no say in their treatment since they were regarded as not fit to make decisions in their 'state of mind'. About ongoing education in the medical field... I took Victorian medicine as the model system for the wizarding world. De Belleme's method's are top notch in that regard. Hysteria was pandemic in Victorian times and doctors fell over each other to develop new and more efficient treatment than the traditional tedious manual labour that was pelvic massage. Everybody, who owns a vibrator or has a bidet in their bathrooms owes that to hysteria treatment. I kid you not. I hope you will continue to read the story. Hermione is out of St. Mungo's now and has to face the aftermath.

ThatRomantic  - Thank you! The torture is at an end, but that does not mean that all is well... I don't think you can subscribe as such at AFF but I also have the story posted at Granger Enchanted and Hawthorn & Vine.

nitesfool - Thank you for reading and reviewing! I am so sorry for the long wait! The climate here knocked me out, internet is not available for hours at a time and then something else came into play. I might tell you all about that in a little while...

AgainAndAgain  - Thank you! I am doing my best *nudges non-heat-resistant muse*

Autumn  - Thank you for reading and reviewing! I am sorry that you are uncomfortable with this story. I did my best to warn about the darkness beforehand. It is a horror story, though, there is no doubt about that. I am a bit confused - you would have liked a link to what kind of site? I also must warn you, chapter 8 might also have content that is controversial/squicky, although it has to do with Hermione's mental state after what she went through rather than things done to her.

Pandalei  - Thank you! Here it finally is! Now to deal with the repercussions...

so_bri_quet  - Thank you! I am also glad Draco is finally back. Stopping the practice in its entirety might be difficult. One does not simply erase a treatment established for 2000 years.

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

luna4917  - I hope the moment when Draco came back into the picture lived up to your expectations :) The keeper would definitely not be a good 'rescuer' for Hermione. His sense of right and wrong is so warped and corrupted by his work environment that he is actually quite dangerous.

Seriouslee  - Draco is back! And I promise that he did not dissolve into mist, he will not stand by and do nothing.

Lucidia89  - Thank you! Hermione is definitely at the verge of slipping into insanity. From now on, there is hope. Although this does not mean that it will be easy for Hermione after all she has been through.

Malingerer  - I don't see Hermione as stupid in the first chapters - or at all. She was in a bad situation to begin with: burnt out, depressed, lonely and probably absolutely terrified by the thought of being reported to her workplace. At the core of things she is very insecure, eager to prove herself and fit in. The wizarding world is not making it easy for her.

I am glad that you generally like the story and find my grammar and spelling to be adequate - that's always great to hear when writing in a second language :)

Harry will appear in the story later on, he is indeed searching quite frantically for Hermione right now. Originally I had planned to make Draco the evil mastermind, who set everything up to make Hermione a helpless, mind-addled inmate for life in his private clinic but I changed my mind on that one. There will be enough of hardship with all the physical, emotional and social repercussions she will have to deal with. A love interest is not very high on her priority list, not to mention that she is probably unable to let anybody get close on any level for a long time.

mirrorofrapture  - I sometimes wonder whether we will one day look back in horror at today's practices - lobotomies for homosexuals were quite en vogue until the early1970s... The keeper is a very sad figure. I think he really wanted to care for and help people but the reality of his job has... damaged him. In a way, he is also a victim. Which does not make his actions right or him any less creepy. Rescue is now imminent, whether it is not too late for Hermione's sanity remains to be seen.

This must be quick.

I am afraid that my online presence generally and my swiftness regarding review responses and/or updating specifically might suffer during the next days weeks months eep! no, definitely a few weeks at the most.

We are moving out of the flat on the 8th of August and our flights are on the 11th.

I have managed to put chapter 5 (aka the moste evil chapter) of Hysteria into the queue over at H&V and GE and I hope to do an update post as soon as something is validated, but I might not make it.

If I am horribly slow in replying to emails or constantly absent on skype, messenger or google talk, it's simply because I am running around like mad, trying to sell the washing machine.

I am not entirely sure that this will get better from around the 15th of August.

If they have not cancelled the broadband my husband organised when he was there last time.

luna4917 - I am afraid that there will be a fair amount of torture treatment and no way out for her. Whatever she does makes her situation only worse. The 'arse' unfortunately is a heralded healer and is actually doing his job within the parametres of respectable (Victorian) medicine. The next chapter will be even darker, but I promise Draco will be back in chapter six!

Lucidia89  - Thank you for sticking with the story, I hope it was not too horrible to continue? The next chapter will mess withHermione;'s head even more nad we will see more of the keeper...

Starrynite45  - She is indeed in trouble. Draco will be back but not before they thoroughly treat her towards insanity. I hope he will not be too late...

Seriouslee  - Wow! Thank you so much! I hope you liked the update:)

nitesfool  - Thank you! I plan to post around every weekend, I just got delayed by RL this time. The next update should be up by Sunday at the latest.

QuicksilverEyes  - Draco is being a very professional healer, here ;) I suspect that he was planning to ask her to go out with him after her treatment was over. Now of course, he has to find out what is happening, first. The next chapter is very dark and Draco-less but I promise he will be back by chapter six!

angeles - The next chapter will be worse! draco has no clue that something is not right - he does not work for St. Mungo's, only comes in twice or thrice a week due to his cottage affiliation. He will find out though. Hopefully not too late...

mirrorofrapture  - The next chapter will be the darkest one of the story. And then Draco will be back! I would be very interested to know what you thought of chapter 4 - In my research I read that one of the most horrible aspect of being 'an interesting case' is the gawking, prodding, being passed around from specialist to intern to resident to student...

WesleyY7  -Thank you so much! I am so glad you like the story so far! As I indicated before, this story will go very dark in the next few chapters, beginning with the second half of chapter three. It mightbe hard to endure and seem hopeless (I wanted to curl up and scream while researching for this) but there will be hope in the end. really.

Moony - Thank you for reading and reviewing! The sessions with Draco were clearly not the worst the wizarding world of medicine has to offer. far from it. Although teh story will get very dark, I hope you'll keep reading :)

luna4917 - Draco is getting indeed distracted by his patient and Hermione is becoming dependent... We are now entering the dark recesses of the medical field in the wizarding world. For a time, there will be nothing but despair there, but I promise a certain knight in shining armour:)

Kogas Hentai Luver - Thank you for reading and reviewing! I'd take a house call any day!

Yup.

My laptop officially went belly up.

Even my personal IT-god in Geneva could do nothing after about ten hours of remote-assistance-first-aid and trying to talk me through the process of formatting my hard drive and booting from cd.

Only that my laptop decided that it no longer likes the cd and simply rejects it.

I also have no idea where the next electronics shop is. In my hysteria I am contemplating getting a new one from Argos (mail order company)...

Now you will say, hey, there are people, who live without internet. Yes. And I have done so. Frequently and recently. But the internet is my haven to call friends and family free of charge, to write emails, to READ FANFICTION and LJ.

*sobs* Argos, here I come.

***
