biscuit recipes
have posted over at [livejournal.com profile] bakebakebake!

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith:

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot Chocolate since I still haven't found out what egg nog is. I could google it, I suppose...

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? I wouldn't know. Father Christmas wraps his presents.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? White, candle-style lights on both the inside and outside tree and colourful fairy lights in the tiny round gable window. Although... I have to check. The fairy lights are nearly as old as I and spare coloured bulbs seem to be rare. I think the fairy lights might have morphed to white lights by now.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? Rarely.

5. When do you put your decorations up? General decorations go up between the weekend before first Advent and the Saturday before first Advent. The Christmas tree itself goes up in the morning of Christmas Eve.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? Stollen. And 'Baumstamm' marzipan = a chocolate-covered marzipan log with a noisette filling.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? Finally being allowed to help decorate the tree.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? What do you mean?

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We open all our gifts on Christmas Eve. As is proper over here. *nods*

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? Candle-style lights, glass baubles, glass bells, wooden ornaments (Erzgebirge style:
Wooden ornaments
) such as angels, nutcrackers, little toys, our very old leonic wire stars, gilded nuts. Tinsel only every other year.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? LOVE IT!! Unfortunately, a white Christmas is rather unlikely in Berlin.

12. Can you ice skate? Not really. I don't fall every few steps but I am far from doing pirouettes.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? A huge Playmobil robber baron castle!

14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? My family.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Baked apples. Mmmhhh.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Decorating the tree with the radio playing Christmas songs in the background. Christmas markets and Mutzenmandeln. Watching 'Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella' at least ten times between first Advent and New Year (have already seen it twice this year :)) Watching the children unwrap their presents. Cooking swede and potato stew with the turkey leftovers on Boxing Day. I guess it's just the magic of it all, the predictability of the season that comes with old traditions, wherever we might be :)

17. What tops your tree? Either a traditional tree topper similar to this one:
Baumspitze
or a silver-plated star.

18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? Giving:) Although I wouldn't mind if somebody would pick up on the broad hints I've been dropping regarding that necklace we saw at the pumpkin market.

19. Candy Canes? Exotic.

20. Favorite Christmas show? As in film? 'Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella', 'Good King Wenzeslas' and 'The Muppets Christmas Carol'.

21. Saddest Christmas Song? Little Drummer boy. *bawls*

22. What is your favorite Christmas song? 'Morgen Kinder, wird's was geben' because it's so happy, 'Silent Night' just before the gift-unwrapping-madness starts and 'Gloria in exelsis deo'.

23. Christmas morning: up at the crack of dawn, or sleep in? Sleep in. We celebrate on Christmas Eve, so Christmas morning is for sleeping in before getting the turkey ready and the red cabbage and the potato dumplings and the apples :)

24. Do you send actual paper Christmas cards? Only to people who live far away. When living abroad I send cards to all my friends and family in Germany but not this year - I'll see all of them at some point :)

25. Strangest place you've ever spent Christmas (Eve or Day, your choice)? The Autobahn. My parents thought it would be a good idea to start our skiing holiday on Christmas Eve because the highways are empty on that day. We arrived rather late in Austria, decorated the little tree that the forester had delivered and 'celebrated' Christmas at around ten o'clock. Might sound romantic but was just tiring and rushed.

I've seen this meme somewhere, but I was somewhat lost in LJ and don't remember which journal I was stalking at that point.

The number one song on the day I was born, in the year I was born, in the country I was born in.

Under the cut for too many embedded videos.

Songs, songs... )

Sorry if that was excessive, but I am having a lot of fun right now :)

I do not own a single hoodie. But I am thinking about getting one designed - a friend works at a shirt design company.

3. Would you kiss the last person you kissed again?

4. Do you plan outfits?
Does making sure there is at least one pair of clean knickers count as "planning"?

5. How are you feeling RIGHT now?
I think I want to go to bed early, but we had signed up for a "rent-movies-and-get-them-posted-to-you-thing and I just got the first movie. We had wanted to watch that together, but now I'll just have to brave it out and watch the horror DVD all by myself.

My leggins

10. Do you floss?
Yes

11. What comes to mind when I say cabbage?

12. Are you emotional?
Without me, the water levels would not be as much on the rise as they are.

7 foods you can't stand

- Olives
- Smoked salmon
- Sweet potatoes
- Shoofly pie (or however it's spelled)
- Molasses without shoofly or pie
- Marmite
- Brawn

6 actors/actresses/musicians/famous people whose appeal you don't understand

- Tom Cruise
- Paris Hilton
- Edmund Stoiber
- Sarah Jessica Parker
- Hansi Hinterseer
- *insert any name of a musician specialized in that certain German country/folk/corny type of music*

5 pet peeves

- Several people talking to me at the same time, ignoring each other.
- Appliances that are not properly turned off (like the freeview box is still happily broadcasting all night/day while the TV is turned off)
- Christmas light chains out all year
- The wireless phone never put on the charger, causing it to die as soon as I get a call
- Not closing cuboard doors or drawers all the way

4 talents you don't have, but kind of wish you did

- Singing
- Knitting. I can crotchet if held at wandpoint
- Stitching
- Pottery

3 songs you hate and think are nauseating.

- Any German Carnival song. Download as ringtone for your mobile at your own risk *bares teeth*
- Any song by Heino
- "I've been looking for freedom" by David Hasselhoff. Huge success in Germany. *looks down in shame*

Fashion trends (past or present) that you hate(d)

- Platform shoes. Honestly, Spice Girls, who was your stylist?
- Bifpib. (Or in German: Vokuhila) Gah. Only people allowed are Michael Pread and Jason Connery. And even they would look better without.

1 thing you will never, ever do again

- Ride that huge swingboat at the fair. I think I can feel my face turning green.

- Singing

1. What are your nicknames?

Neeka, Janu, Jani

2. What's your favorite holiday?

Christmas, as in vacation, skiing or something packed with culture

3. What's new in your life right now?

What's not new? All the old things in my life fit into a suitcase AND are currently situated in said suitcase - still no private possessions from Germany...

4. Where was the last Starbucks that you visited?

I have never ever in my life had something from Starbucks. I think I accompanied my husband a few years back into one and waited while he got a coffee beverage with a name that consisted of at least 15 words. This disinterest could stem from the fact that I do not drink coffee, I do not eat it either. No mocha ice cream, no cappuccino chocolate, no Irish Coffee. I have a childhood trauma. When I was six, I accidentally drank my father's black, unsweetened coffee, got violently sick and had a fever the next day. I heave just thinking about it.

5. Are you introverted or extroverted?

I used to be really shy, but I got a lot better :)

6. What books are you currently reading?

I just discarded another Mills & Boon novel. Just because a book costs 60 p is not a reason to buy it.

I just read Twilight, because my friend lent it to me after she was done with it. It took me a month to finish this book. I usually open a book at a random page and read a few sentences to see whether I want to read the whole thing. I opened Twilight and read this:

I rolled my eyes. "Vampires like baseball?"
"It's the American pastime," he said with mock solemnity.

Need I say that the book remained unopened for the next three weeks?

In the end it was not too bad, but it's not my next fandom in the making.

7. What celebrity do you have a crush on?

Mmh. I don't really do the celebrity crush thing.

8. What brand of TV do you have?

It was gifted to us by a colleague. Hang on, I got to check.

"Goodmans" and it's in the living room.

9. How many songs do you have on your iPod?

I do not have an iPod.

10. First three things you do right after you get up?

Take my thyroid hormones, brush my teeth, take a shower

11. You go out with friends to get some ice-cream. How many scoops and what flavors do you order?

I usually get either something from the fruity side or something chocolaty/nutty: passion fruit, mango, lemon, pineapple or nougat, chocolate, coconut, peanut butter (when in America) or if I can afford it: cookies and cream.

Depending on the mood of the day, I get between 1 and 3 scoops, German scoops being tiny compared to American ones.

12. What do you love to wear?

Corsets.

I will not elaborate.

13. When people guess your age, do they usually think you're older, younger or get it right?

Younger, I used to look older than my actual age when I was a teenager, but that has luckily reversed.
