Gasp: A Meme!

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] 13secrets :

7 foods you can't stand

- Olives
- Smoked salmon
- Sweet potatoes
- Shoofly pie (or however it's spelled)
- Molasses without shoofly or pie
- Marmite
- Brawn

6 actors/actresses/musicians/famous people whose appeal you don't understand

- Tom Cruise
- Paris Hilton
- Edmund Stoiber
- Sarah Jessica Parker
- Hansi Hinterseer
- *insert any name of a musician specialized in that certain German country/folk/corny type of music*

5 pet peeves

- Several people talking to me at the same time, ignoring each other.
- Appliances that are not properly turned off (like the freeview box is still happily broadcasting all night/day while the TV is turned off)
- Christmas light chains out all year
- The wireless phone never put on the charger, causing it to die as soon as I get a call
- Not closing cuboard doors or drawers all the way

4 talents you don't have, but kind of wish you did

- Singing
- Knitting. I can crotchet if held at wandpoint
- Stitching
- Pottery

3 songs you hate and think are nauseating.

- Any German Carnival song. Download as ringtone for your mobile at your own risk *bares teeth*
- Any song by Heino
- "I've been looking for freedom" by David Hasselhoff. Huge success in Germany. *looks down in shame*

Fashion trends (past or present) that you hate(d)

- Platform shoes. Honestly, Spice Girls, who was your stylist?
- Bifpib. (Or in German: Vokuhila) Gah. Only people allowed are Michael Pread and Jason Connery. And even they would look better without.

1 thing you will never, ever do again

- Ride that huge swingboat at the fair. I think I can feel my face turning green.

What is marmite?

And NOBODY belongs in platform shoes. I think they look ridiculous.

Marmite is evil. It's yeast extract used as a spread. It's dark brown, bitter, and goopy, and just one of those things that people can only possibly like because they have no actual tastebuds.

*vlurps* No wonder she doesn't like it.

*runs to find normal, every day jam*

We tried it for breakfast in Australia - to "experience the culture" or something like that.

I think my Mum even bravely finished her toast.

I have never even seen marmite (just in pictures) but it looks kind of…how should I say it…yucky. LibertyElyot, who’s from the UK, loves it though. She says it’s one of those foods you either hate or love. LOL

Is German Carnival music, like polka music? LOL

It must be an acquired taste, something you have to grow up with...

I don't know why we always get associated with Polka. Polka is Polish (okay, Poland is only 1.5 hours drive from Berlin, but still it's a different culture).

When I get home tonight, I'll try to find an example on youtube. Mostly it's loud, fit to sing/roar even when utterly smashed, with crude or simply stupid lyrics. Unfortunately, they also tend to be very popular from 11th of November until Carnival Tuesday (Donut Day)...

Eeeek, I'm sorry Lady of Clunn, about the polka music. I've never been to Germany, so I have no idea. Now that you have enlightened me though, I will never make that mistake again.

I didn't mean to be patronizing - I've danced a few Polkas in my life :)

Aw hon, you didn’t sound patronizing. I was just afraid I had offended you and that’s the last thing I want to do. :D

What a interesting number one under annoyances. And no salmon? for shame! lol@David Hasselhoff. He makes me laugh. I'm trying your recipe this weekend : )

My husband and my daughter tend to do this...

Not no salmon at all. Grilled is wonderful! Just please no smoked salmon.

Hope you like the Kaiserschmarren!
