Pancake Day

In Germany, we call it Faschingsdienstag (Carnival Tuesday) and all the kids get to dress up and have a party at school or in Kindergarten. A bit like Halloween without the scary part.
There are two kinds of foods which are called pancakes in Germany.

Feels really strange to stand in the kitchen, completely un-costumed, making pancakes. Tania, the smart kid, had it figured out, of course.
"I am missing out on Fasching, this year, am I not?"
Helpless attempt to explain away the circumstances, trying to tell her that she had Halloween, which she would not celebrate in Berlin.
*lower lip quivers*
"I want to go live with Oma and Opa!"
