Apparently, today is pancake day.

In Germany, we call it Faschingsdienstag (Carnival Tuesday) and all the kids get to dress up and have a party at school or in Kindergarten. A bit like Halloween without the scary part.

There are two kinds of foods which are called pancakes in Germany.

Here, this variety is eaten:

While in Germany, we eat those ones (one is always filled with mustard *evil laugh*):

Feels really strange to stand in the kitchen, completely un-costumed, making pancakes. Tania, the smart kid, had it figured out, of course.

"I am missing out on Fasching, this year, am I not?"

Helpless attempt to explain away the circumstances, trying to tell her that she had Halloween, which she would not celebrate in Berlin.

*lower lip quivers*

"I want to go live with Oma and Opa!"

Great. Just great.
