Happy Halloween!

Thank you so much for all the lovely purple creepy-crawlies!

Surprisingly, we even had a few groups of kids coming around for trick-or-treating! Many had rehearsed poems or songs and even carried simple music instruments.

Otherwise, Berlin was a complete zoo today. Large parts of Germany had a public holiday today, Reformation Day, commemorating the day that Martin Luther nailed his 95 thesis to the Wittenberg church doors.

Berlin, being the most secular of all German provinces, had a normal working day, while Brandenburg, the province which surrounds Berlin, had a day off (even though there are less people belonging to a church in Brandenburg than in Berlin).

Can. You. Imagine. The. Traffic?

Note to self: absolutely no shopping or errands of any sort on Reformation Day!

You know what she said?

"Mum, I'm really not that much of a Harry Potter fan."

Silence

"Can I be a witch anyhow?"

Halloween is coming up and I am at a loss.

It's not celebrated in Germany and my knowledge about the holiday comes from US television shows, films and HP fanfiction. I know we're supposed to go all over town "Trick-or-Treating", and I have already bought a costume for Missy of Clunn (she's a witch, yay! That's my girl!) but is there anything else to it? Any tips?

We do carve a pumpkin every year, but so far only geometric patterns, no scary faces...
