Today is Walpugis and the local Manor House is holding a medieval market with tournament and concerts.

Although called 'Schloß Britz', it´s really a manor, not a palace.

The girls had a great time! Later tonight, there will be witch dance and I heard it´s always awesome but I couldn´t stay that long with Ida.

It was lovely, indeed. They had a fairy tale (telling) witch for the kids, too.

There will be a medieval Christmas Market in the same location and I´ve heard it´s very nice.

I really liked their medieval robes and cloaks, the prices seem to finally have come down to something affordable!

I can´t wait for next Saturday! I have to talk to my aunt and uncle over the weekend to straighten out how we will go. I talked to my cousin and it turns out that my uncle appears to be the only one having issues with going by train, so he and my aunt might be going by car and the rest of us by train or something like that.

I will be able to tell you specifics on or right after the weekend! Yasser will not be coming along as we had planned since he has to fly to England for the weekend. We got the assurance of nationality on Thursday! YAY!! Now he has to tie up some loose ends with his family over there before he renounces his original nationality and surrenders his passport at the Embassy. He will then be effectively stateless without travel docuemnts until the paperwork comes through and Germany hands him the final naturalisation certificate.

Coming back to the topic of cycling, the following people will be coming along: you, me, my father, my cousin and her husband, my other cousin (brother of first mentioned cousin), my aunt and uncle (parents of the cousins). If my aunt and uncle go by car and possibly the cousin who is not bringing his wife,too, we will be five people going by train and can all share a Wochenendticket.

Aww, that's lovely. I'll bet the kids loved that. :) And yay for clothes!

Awesome work for Yasser--go him! Are you going to have a party? I don't know if that's the done thing here, but a lot of people in Australia used to have parties when they were granted citizenship.

That's an incredible number of people, but it sounds fabulous! I'm really looking forward to it. I need to remember to get my bike serviced this week just in case, but that won't be a problem. I might get the names of your family members in advance too (though not on LJ, of course) so I can try to memorise them before I meet them. :) I'm afraid I'm often very terrible with names when I meet new people.

Oh!

It didn´t really occur to me. I don´t know anybody who got naturalised while I knew them.

We thought about having a good bye party but kind of ditched the idea due to cost and the water situation in the house. Dealing with party dishes is a catastrophe.

IF the water situation is resolved until July (ROFL) we will have a party, though. I am not holding my breath.

Don´t worry about people´s names - Du/you will be fine ;) I´ll tell you their names anyhow :)

Oh, bless you, that was my other question: it seems strange to go on a trip with somebody and say Sie, but I wasn't sure if I was quite at the 'du' status. :) You're such a love. Fingers crossed now that I won't accidentally say the wrong thing in German and turn something normal into something rude.

I've known a surprising number of people to do it. Mostly Europeans too, which never really made sense to me. Australia is all well and good, but why on earth ditch European citizenship for an Australian passport which is far more restrictive? Too weird.

Parties are very hard work sometimes, even with a water situation. I'm sure he'll be happy either way.

I am 95% sure about my aunt and uncle and 'du'.

If they introduce themselves with their last name, though...

We´ll cross that bridge when we get to it. If it comes to it, which I doubt, I will simply suggest that we all say du.

There are loads of Europeans who want to immigrate to Australia and some have good reason, like our friends who were refugees from Yugoslavia and couldn´t get a long term residency here. Now they do incredibly well in Melbourne. For me, it would be too hot, tbh.

The friend, whose son goes to Dickens, will probably spend a year or two or longer in Australia or Canada from the end of summer it seems. She is thinking about renting out her house in the meantime - would you be interested? Should I ask her? I don´t know whether they have already found someone...

Melbourne's got pretty nice weather, compared to Brisbane. Nowhere as hot, at least. :) We had friends who came from Yugoslavia--the father had been in the war and it was just crazy.

I think we're just getting settled in here so I won't pursue it, but thank you. Now I have the room painted I'm not so eager to run off, heh. It's just all finally coming together... after a bit more than a year here. Plus, I don't fancy having to pay hundreds and hundreds (or possibly even thousands, more like it!) to deal with kitchens and painting and painting at the new place, and movers, and everything else. We're tempted to stay here, save a bit, and buy a house once we get residency. We probably won't be able to afford it, but a girl can dream.
