A shoutout of thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nursedarry and [livejournal.com profile] cassie_black_12 for organising this awesome event, to [livejournal.com profile] delorispea, who wrote drabble presents for everyone, yes, everyone! By hand! Delivered in little HP envelopes! And to [livejournal.com profile] kennahijja, who wrote a wonderful story for the raffle, which I won! *squeee*

As promised, there shall be picspam:

One way to the Royal Mile

And the other *blinks*

Hmmm. Fleshmarket. Am I the only one with naughty thoughts right now?

On the Royal Mile.

This one is for [livejournal.com profile] willowfaerie2

Tania trying to liberate a chicken.

Tania explains the historical significance of the grassmarket to me. *nods*

View from the meeting room to the left.

View from the meeting room straight ahead.

View from the meeting room to the right. It doesn't get much better than that.

Even the balustrade was decorated with unicorns. How perfect is that?

Witchy :)

Victoria Street - even prettier in sunlight :)

Lordofclunn and Missy Clunn in front of Edinburgh Castle. Which we didn't get to see from the inside. Because somebody *glares at Lordofclunn* had to spend a disproportionate amount of time in a certain electronics shop. And because there was a downpour of torrential magnitude. *cough*

Edinburgh Seagulls are kinda creepy.

Tania is convinced that The Doctor was in Edinburgh - the Tardis was absolutely everywhere!

And here!

There it is again! On the Royal Mile!

Where's the Doctor??

I'm so glad you had a great time! I'm so sorry I didn't have a lot of free time to mingle and then just zoned out on Sat night in the bar! LOL! But if you're around next year, and I don't make it to Cantebury, I'd love to meet up again.

And, btw, your family are gorgeous!

Thank you! They are great, aren't they? :)

It was a truly wonderful meetup - clearly you put a lot of effort and thought and attention to detail into everything. Thank you again!!

I hope to make it to Canterbury, the current plans are to be in Europe for June and July...

I had to do some family holiday things, it would not have been fair to them otherwise AND there is the unlikely possibility that I will never get a chance to see Edinburgh again...

Tania still didn't get her build-a-bear bunny (??) which might or might not have something to do with the mentioned electronics shop but we decided to go to the Cambridge shop sometime soon...

Thank you!

Edinburgh is incredibly beautiful. Most of the buildings are actually grey sandstone. Very elegant!

We bought the shoes in Edinburgh because - clearly - buying shoes when on holiday is so much better than at home. A must, even.

if you had to estimate, how much do you think it would cost for me to go to DiaCon next year..ball park figure?

(no subject)

Date: 2010-07-05 06:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lady-of-clunn.livejournal.com
Well, the con itself is not that bad - membership is 35 £ at the moment plus £ 75 for accommodation if you take shared bathroom facilities or £ 111 with en suite. That is for three nights as far as I understood and much better than any B&B you might find.

So. 146 £ for the con itself. Of course you will need to get there, so a flight New York - London (you might find some good deals if you are flexible on dates...) and then a train ticket(one hour from St. Pancras, single fare £ 28)or bus ticket (1.5 hours, goes directly to the uni, £ 20 return!!) to Canterbury.

So we are at £ 166 for the con and getting there within the UK. You will need spending money and money for meals and such and that depends largely on your taste...

A week sounds very tight for a trip to Europe, especially DiaCon already lasts four days.

You might want to see London and maybe Oxford, where the HP films were filmed (it's a day trip) that could be substituted with Cambridge (similar college architecture) or you do something completely different... But I think it would be a shame to fly over and not really see much...

So 2 weeks is probably what I should be shooting for then. Hmm, OK. Let's see. I'm gonna try to make it happen 'cause this is the last movie and I really want to meet you and see everything. I'll hit you up when I know more.

I just found out that a ticket to the victory ball costs £ 35 including a three course meal. that's an event not to be missed (and I will get the black leather corset out!) So that raises the con cost to around £ 200.

K, well that's around the same price at the con here, so far, it's still looking good. Now if I can just find a cheap flight. lol

Tania's a cutie - me and [personal profile] lkaet had a blast playing Doctor Who quizzes with her :)

Also, 'Fleshmarket' and 'Cockburn Street' - DEFINITELY not the only one thinking dirty thoughts! Prostitute neighbourhood, wot?

I have to laugh, because I think our stories are a little bit alike, yet very different. We both are interested in the same idea of sexual healing, only we are approaching it in very different ways. :)

I love Edinburgh. London would be my favourite if I would be single, but Edinburgh seems to have that mix of city life, culture and open space, yet it's not too big all the same. Huge contender for 'return-to-the-UK-base'!

I think you will see the huge difference between our stories fromthe next chapter - while Hermione seeks healing in your story, treatment is being forced upon Hermione in mine...

I just read the big round-up post from the meet-up comm, and it says meet up will be autumn, because of the con.

SOFT MUST COME TO DIACON!

Seriously, I wish I'd have just said fuck it and gone, because my weekend was shit, quite frankly.

ps. I haven't forgotten about Hysteria. I'm just baking some cookies, then I'm going to sort out my filing system. I know it's there somewhere...

During the torrential downpour, we fled into a shop that sold all kinds of fan-related stuff.

Tania went salivating over Dr Who action figures, I salivated over a life-size Snape carton thingy and my husband was just generally disgusted by salivating Twilight fans. Good man.

We were lucky to be in front of that very shop!

It was on Nicolson St., a bit away from the touristy areas. We figured we would find a cheap restaurant there for lunch.

They had stuff for any fandom imaginable. Even The Dark Crystal. And that was in the cinemas when I was about five years old!
