Lovely Holiday
May. 25th, 2009 04:37 pmAs the rest of Europe had a holiday last Thursday (Ascension), the UK and the Church of England seemingly do not like religious holidays besides Christmas and Easter. I guess in order to appease the outraged masses, they strategically placed holidays around important Christian and Celtic holidays, naming them very uninspiredly "Mayday" = Beltane, "Spring Holiday" = Ascension or "Summer Holiday" = Lughnasadh.
Yesterday, one of my neighbours hosted a party and we were invited. It was quite nice, barbecueing, music, the works. Then I proceeded to insert my foot quite deeply into my mouth by asking: "So, whose birthday is it?"
A lady with wild red and black dread locks gave me a weird glance, gestured towards the ribbon-decorated tree and told me that it was a celebration for a relative that had passed away and was I not pagan?
Apparently the entire family is pagan and I fitted right in, for some reason my hair was good enough reason to pass for one of them.
Fortunately they didn't mind and it was a very interesting evening.
Today we decided to just laze about, plant some strawberry plants and feed the ducks that always come to visit us.
Life is good.
