Right.
When I moved, I had to close our account with ScottishGas. The girl in the contact centre sounded REALLY Scottish. Not 'look I am so funny I am Scottish but still you can understand me TV personality Scottish', but Highland Scottish.
I didn't have a clue what she was saying. And it appears she couldn't understand me, either. After a lot of 'pardons' I said:
"I am sorry, I used to live in America, I have a funny accent."
Instead of something like "Ah, you know, I have a Scottish accent, must be difficult for you, too." Or anything equally polite, she just said:
"Yes."
Well. There you go.
And to think that the amount of time I spent in NYC in my entire life so far sums up to a total of 4 or 5 days ...
I think it just came out that way because it only tests for American accents. Mine has toned down considerably. I am getting into all these nasal tones lately.

New York City. You are most definitely from New York City. Not New Jersey, not Connecticut. If you are from Jersey then you can probably get into New York City in 10 minutes or less.
