A while back I asked mu Mum whether I could use certain events in a story that she owns the rights to. Now she wanted to know what came of it and I filled her in about fanfiction.

Instead of saying that I am doing strange things I could literally hear her shrug when she said:

"Oh, you've been doing this for ages!"

Huh? Care to elaborate?

Apparently, I had a bit of an obsession with the 'Odysee' when I was about eight years old. No, I don't claim to have read Homer at that age. I watched the film with Kirk Douglas as Odysseus.

I liked playing with my Mum's old type writer at the time and I must have written a story about Odysseus not leaving Circe's island but staying there, having to take on a boring office job (!) since Circe was feeling he was getting too lazy with her providing everything by means of magic. o_0

My Mum says it was about one page long and she still has it somewhere. I only have very fuzzy memories of this.

Now Tania has written her first story. And she didn't even ask for spelling help. This is it:

If you can't make out what it says, it goes like this:

The Rainbowfish

Once upon a time there was a fish called Rainbow.

The end.

:-)

Today she painted a picture of "Rainbow Cat". I see a series coming on :)

I used to do the same thing when I was little! I would take a few sheets of looseleaf paper, fold them in half, staple it, and write/illustrate little storybooks about whatever I was thinking of at the time. My dad has one I wrote about the Yankees and the Mets (NY baseball teams) and my mom has one called The Sunny Day. They're pretty hilarious to look at now.

You've got a little writer on your hands! ;)

Wow - baseball fanfiction? Maybe I should search for cricket stories and get my husband hooked!

Thanks! *grins widely*

I am still totally bowled over that she can write at all, let alone stories. However short they might be at the moment.

Thanks!

I am really pleased with the schooling here. I don't think I was at that level of reading and writing in first grade. And I didn't have to learn a foreign language first!

I do believe things like this are in the genes, and she probably has seen you writing...who knows what combination is at work, but it's great, and what a lovely picture and tale to go with it. Nurture it : )

I love the picture, too!

Tania said she wanted the story to be longer, but ran out of space :)
